Year R

Why Burford?

Dear Reception and Year 1 Parents,

We would like to know the main reasons you had for choosing Burford School for your child. Similarly as the children have now spent some time with us we would like to know what you, as parents,  feel are the best things about Burford School and why you are happy with the education your children receive.

Please email any feedback to

Many thanks

Build on Books

Dear Parents,

Similar to last year, I’m collecting children’s shoes on behalf of Build on Books.

You may be familiar with the local charity called Build on Books, run by Lori Spragg. Lori supports children in Sierra Leone many of whom have been orphaned by the Ebola outbreak. A majority of the children don’t have any shoes to wear which leaves them vulnerable to parasites, injuries and infections.

At the end of term, many of the Burford children will no longer be needing their school shoes as parents will buy new ones for September. As per last year, I am organising a shoe collection, where children could donate their old shoes on the last day of term.

There is no pressure to donate – obviously not all children will have outgrown their shoes, whilst some shoes will only be fit for the bin! Also Lori can’t take muddy shoes due to the contamination risk to the farming in Sierra Leone. However, if your child has a clean pair of wearable shoes (this is not just restricted to school shoes) that you would like to donate, then please bring them to the stamping shelter on the last day of term.

I thought this was a simple way that we can make a small difference to help these orphans.

We have been given a donation towards the cost of shipping the shoes from various LOVE Marlow events, but if anyone would like to make a further donation then please hand it into the school office in an envelope marked Build on Books.

Many thanks for your support,

Caz Grafham

Census Day Lunch – Tomorrow

Dear Parents / Carers
Due to school census day tomorrow, Dolce have put on a special lunch – Chicken Goujons, Pizza, Spaghetti Bolognese, Filled Jacket Potatoes plus a dessert!
As part of our school funding is based on the number of pupils that have a school meal on Census Day, we would like to encourage as many children in Years R, 1 and 2 to take up their free Universal meal that day.
Thank you for your continued support.

Year R Woolley Firs Trip

Dear Parents

At Woolley Firs we will be learning about minibeasts and finding out about animal homes.

Things to remember:

  • All children should wear trousers (in case of stinging nettles).  If the girls do not have school trousers, any other trousers will be fine but everybody should have their Burford polo shirts and jumpers.
  • The children can wear trainers rather than school shoes if the weather is dry.
  • Please supply a packed lunch in a named child’s rucksack. If you do not have one then a named carrier bag will be fine. The children will need 2 drinks, nothing fizzy please.
  • Please remember that we are a no nut school (both on and off site).
  • Please send your child with a raincoat (whatever the weather forecast). This is essential as we spend most of the day outside.  The group adults will carry the raincoat if it isn’t needed.
  • If the forecast is for sun please apply sun cream at home and make sure, your child has a named sunhat.

Dear Reception Parents

Please ensure you login to your Parent Pay account as soon as possible to pay for the YR trip to Woolley Firs. This then also acts as permission for your child to attend.

Many thanks.
