Move to Y3 – Lunches

SUMMER MUSIC CONCERT – Thursday 20th June, 7pm

Children who are performing should arrive at school between 6.45-6.55pm, and find their seats in the hall. School uniform should be worn but no jumpers/cardigans/yr 6 hoodies are needed.  Please encourage your child to be as smart as possible!

Instruments should be brought and left in Yr3 classrooms before the concert starts, and by 6.50pm at the latest.  If the instrument needs tuning (woodwind / strings) please try to arrive at 6.35-6.40pm.

All performers should bring a bottle of water with them.

FOB are serving drinks and ice creams for adults and children during the interval, so please bring small change to speed up the transaction process.

Many thanks,

Year 2 Shoe Box/Containers

Dear Year 2 Parents/Carers,

Please could we ask for each child to bring in a shoe box plus any clean, empty 1 litre containers you may have by next Tuesday (25th June).

Many thanks.

Didgeridoo Man

Dear Parents,

We are very pleased that Jonathan Cope, otherwise known as ‘The Digeridoo Man’, will be visiting Year 2 on Thursday 27th June 2019. The children will have a chance to make their own Didgeridoo, paint a dot art journey picture, learn Aboriginal dancing and discover lots of exciting facts!

We would like the children to come dressed in either Australian colours or something that links with our topic of Australia. If it’s warm, here’s hoping, summer clothes and if it’s cold just bright clothing. No sunglasses or football kits please! We would advise them not to choose anything too special to wear as they will be doing Art activities in one of the sessions.

As the visit takes place within school hours, then under the terms of the 2002 Education Reform Act no charge can be made by the school for the visit. May we therefore invite you to make a voluntary contribution of £8.00 via Parent Pay to cover the cost.

Payment online is confirmation of parental permission for your child to attend.

All children will be able to take part in the visit regardless of whether their parent(s) have made the contribution. However, if we do not receive a sufficient sum in voluntary contributions the visit will have to be cancelled since we could not cover the cost of the trip from school funds.

Year 2 Choir Info Summer 2019

Dear Year 2 Choir Parents,

The Summer Term is always a busy one and there are 2 main Choir events for the children coming up ….

Saturday 11th May: Burford Summer Fayre – KS2 and Year 2 choir children will be singing together for about 10 minutes. Start time is 12 o’clock, so please be near the main arena by 11.55pm. I appreciate that not all choir members will be available to perform on this day because of prior commitments but it will be the children’s first opportunity to sing as part of Burford Choir so please try to attend if at all possible.

For the Summer Fayre children should wear mufti clothes. We will be performing on the playground so please ensure children wear coats if it’s a rainy day! Singing outside in any weather is always difficult because the children’s sound disappears into the atmosphere but I know that everyone will be singing their hearts out so hopefully a little bit of the sound will travel in your direction! (If you get a chance to practice the words to ‘Dancing in the street’ then I would really appreciate it as rehearsal time is so short!)

Thursday 20th June: Summer Music Concert 7pm – This is our main music event of the school year, and Burford Choir will be singing in both halves of the concert. I would expect full attendance of all KS2 and Yr2 choir members at this event.

The children will need to wear school uniform and look smart! No jumpers or cardigans should be worn as the hall gets very hot!

Tickets for parents can be ordered via a separate letter coming out from the school office (maximum 2 tickets per family).

The Summer Music Concert is a special evening for Year 2 choir members as it’s a great opportunity to be part of a ‘proper’ music concert, and will give the children vital experience of performing late at night in front of a large adult audience. This is an important stepping stone towards performing in larger, unfamiliar venues in Key Stage 2, and so if your child is serious about continuing to sing in Burford Choir next year then it is really important that they attend (and enjoy performing at) our school Summer Music Concert. The concert will end about 9.30pm, and Year 2 teachers are aware that they may have tired class members the following day!

I will assume that all Year 2 choir members are attending but if your child is not going to be performing on Thursday 20th June then please let me know immediately by dropping a note in the choir postbox (on the wall to your right, just inside the Music building entrance).

Many thanks for all your support,

Emma Legassick

Year 2 – Pyjama and Book Day

Dear Year 2 Parents

On Monday, Year 2 will be taking part in a pyjama and book day, this is in preparation for our writing hot task.

Children should come to school dressed in their pyjamas but they will be going out for breaks and lunch as usual so should wear pyjamas they are comfortable to be dressed in outside.  Don’t forget a coat!

We would also like the children to bring in their favourite book, with a particular page of interest bookmarked and be able to explain why the book they have chosen is their favourite.  Please support them in rehearsing what they will say to their classmates about the book they bring in.

We are all looking forward to a fun day of inspiring activities and hope the children enjoy the day.

Thank you for your support.
