Year 3 Assembly

Dear Parents,

We are looking forward to sharing our assembly with you next Friday 29th March which will begin at 9.15am in the hall. We are anticipating the assembly will be around half an hour.
Children will need to come to school in their Roman costumes they wore on Roman day with their school uniform in a separate bag. They will be doing the assembly again to the school later on in the day.
If you have any questions, please do get in touch.

Best wishes,
Miss Barnes and Mr Farina

Year 3 Swimming

Dear Parents/Carers,
We are so proud of the progress the children are making in their swimming lessons!
In our swimming session next week (7th March), the children will be taking part in a swimming safety lesson. For this lesson, the swimming teachers have requested that the children bring a light pair of pyjamas to wear in the pool to mimic what it would feel like to fall into water fully clothed. Please could you ensure that a pair of suitable pyjamas are packed with the swimming kit.
Children should come into school in their swimming kit as normal where they will put on their pyjamas over their costumes/shorts once we arrive at the pool. Hats will be worn as usual but goggles will not be worn for this session.
If you have any questions do get in touch.
Best wishes,
Miss Barnes and Mr Farina

Year 3 DT

Dear Parents,

As we begin our DT Unit on Roman Purses, could we please ask that the children bring in an (empty) purse of their choice into school on Thursday (14th February) so that we can study different purses and the way that they are made.

Many thanks.

Year 3 Early Supervision

Dear Year 3 Parents/Carers
Unfortunately, this morning two Year 3 children were playing football unsupervised in the car park outside the Year 3 classroom at 8:30am.
Please be reminded that Mrs Marshall and I stand outside the Key Stage 1 door area to welcome the children in the morning from 8.30am and supervise them there between 8:30am and 8:35am.
The Year 3 door opens at 8:35am and any children waiting outside this door should be supervised by a parent/carer until this time.
Thank you for your understanding.
Mr Garner

Y3-4 Yoga Club

Dear Parents,

Having recently certified as a children’s yoga teacher, I am pleased to offer an afterschool yoga club. The club will include learning various yoga postures through stories, music and dance. Mindfulness and breathing exercises will be incorporated within every session. Studies have shown that regularly practising yoga with children can improve their confidence and self-esteem as well as their attention span, academic performance and their ability to deal with stress and anxiety.

Initially, this will just be for Years 3 and 4 and if successful, I am hoping to branch out and offer this to other year groups. The cost of the club will be £20 for six sessions on the following dates – 7th February, 14th February, 28th February, 14th March, 21st March and 28th March. We will be running the club in the music room and children will go straight there from their classrooms at 3.15pm, ready for collection at 4.15pm. They can either change in their classrooms or in the music room. The music room should not be entered until Miss Barnes has arrived so please let your child know this prior to the club starting. Children need to be dressed appropriately either in school PE kit or comfortable loose clothing from home (leggings are fine). I recommend having something warm to wear for when we do our relaxation time at the end.

Children need to bring a yoga mat with them to school. They can be bought on the following website for £1.99.

https://www.decathlon.co.uk/essential-fitness-mat-black-id_8131781.html

Twelve places for yoga will become available on School Money today and will be on a first come, first served basis.

If you have any questions, please do get in touch. I look forward to starting yoga on 7th February!

Best wishes,

Miss Barnes

Year 3 Swimming

Dear Parents,

May we kindly ask that talcum powder is not put into the children’s swimming kits due to allergies.

Also, snacks provided after swimming should be healthy, fruit-based snacks like at usual breaktime. Crisps and chocolate bars are not suitable snacks.

Many thanks.

Year 3 Spring Term

Dear Year 3 Parents

Happy New Year! We hope you had a lovely Christmas break. We have a busy term ahead and thought it would be useful to outline various things happening in Year 3.

Swimming
We really enjoyed seeing the children participate in their first swimming lesson and are looking forward to watching their progress in the weeks ahead. Please see attached a letter regarding googles for swimming. We will not be able to allow the children to wear goggles this Thursday unless this slip has been returned.
Please ensure your child has a snack with them for after swimming as many were hungry when they returned!
Boys swimming trunks must be tight fitting.
If you have any questions regarding swimming, please do come and speak with us.

Topic
This term our focus will be History. The children will be learning about the Romans. Our Roman day is on Wednesday 23rd January and the children are invited to come in a Roman costume.
Should you wish to enhance the children’s learning at the weekends or during the holidays, we recommend the following places for visits…
• Verulamium museum in St. Albans – St. Albans has lots of Roman history
• Roman Baths in Bath
• Chedworth Roman Villa in Gloucester (National Trust) – Cirencester has lots of Roman history

Maths
Our work with Maths Mastery continues and our next units of teaching will be Further Multiplication and Division, Length, Mass and Volume. Please keep up regular practise of times tables and simple addition and subtraction as these support all areas of maths. We hope to see many of you at our Maths Evening on the 5th February.

English
We are currently focusing on ‘Setting Descriptions’ and later on will be focusing on a variety of non-fiction types and diary entries which will link to our topic on The Romans.

Science
We have begun the term building on our learning from Year 2 where we are studying Plants. Next, we will be focusing on Teeth and Nutrition. Our STEM week after half-term should be an exciting week full of activities! The children will be conducting their own experiments in this week.

Thank you for your continued support.

Best wishes,

Miss Barnes and Mr Farina

Year 3 Tissues

Dear Parents

We are running very low on tissues in Year 3.  If possible could everyone bring in one box of tissues and that will hopefully see us through to the end of the year.

Thank you.
