Meet The Governors

Sarah Cooper

I have been involved in the Governing Body since October 2007 and in September 2014 I became Chair of the Governing Body.  I became a Co-opted Governor from February 2015.  I have three children, one of whom is still at Burford in KS1.  My eldest child left in July 2013.  My primary reason for becoming a Governor was my belief that all children deserve a great primary education to prepare them for the next stage of school.  Over the years, I have been actively involved in the Curriculum and I am still responsible for Assessment and Literacy throughout the school.  As the Chair of Governors, I sit on all Committees.

Ian Garner

As Headteacher, I am a member of the Governing Body and serve on all Committees.  I have taught at Burford School since September 2008 having been employed as a member of the SLT.  I became Assistant Headteacher in 2012, Deputy Headteacher in May 2015 and Headteacher in April 2016.  I undertook my teaching degree at the University of Reading where I achieved my B.Ed and QTS. My main roles in school focus on assessment and the school curriculum. I also lead on PE and hold several voluntary roles such as Chairman of the Local Schools Football League, coordinating the Marlow Schools Sport Group and I organise several events for the Thames Valley Running League. I am married with two children and enjoy spending time with my family and attending sporting events such as T20 cricket and London Irish rugby games.

 

Tracey Marshall

I am delighted to be Burford School’s Deputy Head and SENDCo, and I am very much looking forward to getting to know you and your children. I have been teaching since I gained my BA (Hons) and QTS in Primary Teaching Education in 2007. During my teaching career to date I have had many roles in school such as being an English, Humanities, Assessment and Gifted and Talented Coordinator. I have taught across KS1 and KS2 and therefore have an understanding of pupils’ learning journey throughout primary school education. In both my previous schools, I have been part of the Senior Leadership Team, working as an Assistant Vice-Principal and Lower School Phase Leader (Years 1, 2 & 3). I live with my husband and three children, two of which are at secondary school and my youngest in KS2. I enjoy spending time with my family going on dog walks with our miniature schnauzer and relaxing with a good novel and a cup of tea.

 

Kevin Ford

I am very pleased to be a parent governor at the school and I have been in this position since September 2017. I have lived and worked in Bucks for almost 20 years, teaching in two secondary schools in the county. Since 2010 I have worked at Great Marlow School, firstly as the Deputy Headteacher and since 2016 as the Headteacher. I have a very keen interest in sport and particularly team sports but recently my own participation has been reduced to a weekly recreational run and occasional gym visit! I hope during my tenure as a parent governor I can use my experience to make a positive contribution to the further development of this excellent school.

 

Josie Jacobs 

I was thrilled to be elected as Parent Governor in September 2015 and am currently the Governor responsible for PSHE, Upper KS2 and sit on the Curriculum Committee.  I have 3 children; my eldest son is in secondary school, my middle son with Special Needs attended Burford for 2 years and my youngest daughter is about to start here in September 2017 – so I have a very good insight into the school and have experienced first-hand its caring ethos and overall objective to enable each and every child to reach their potential.

During the Autumn that I joined, I just completed my MSc in Applied Positive Psychology, which is the science and practice of Wellbeing and am now practising as a Positive Psychologist.  Along with the Headteacher, I believe in the power of building wellbeing and resilience across the school, so that teachers and children are able to flourish and learn important lessons for life.  I also work in the corporate sector with a background in advertising and marketing, and hope to ensure good communication both internally and externally.

 

David Caldwell

I have two children who attend Burford School and became a Governor in October 2013.   I am currently the Chair of the Management Committee as well as being the Governor responsible for Early Years Foundation Stage and Outdoor Learning and Reception Year Group Governor.

 

Neil Hillier

I was delighted to be elected as a Parent Governor in July 2012 and in April 2015, I was Co-opted to the Governing Body. Not only do I have four children (three of whom are in Burford School) but I also attended as a pupil myself from 1978-1985. Within the governing body, I liaise closely with the Mathematics and ICT Coordinators to support new initiatives and raise standards, and I also Chair the Curriculum Committee.

Burford School is a great community and also benefits from a social side! I am an active member of Friends of Burford and I also worked within the project team to raise money and build the new school hall.

 

Andrea McCubbin

I was elected as a Parent Governor in November 2013 and thoroughly enjoy being part of a team that makes a recognisable contribution to the education of our children.  I have one child at Burford in Year 4. However, my association with the school is much longer as both my teenage children are former Burford pupils.  I sit on the curriculum committee and am responsible for the spelling and writing parts of the literacy curriculum.

Professionally, I have spent many years working in the charity sector and I am the Chief Executive of Buckinghamshire Mind.

 

 

Gary Regan

I joined the Governing Body as a parent Governor in September 2015. I am currently the Governor responsible for SEND, Safeguarding and Lower Key Stage Two. Both my children currently attend Burford and receive an excellent education.

Professionally, I am a primary teacher who has since moved into special education in the Secondary sector, where I am Head of a school for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health issues.

 

Reverand Graham Watts

I became a Co-opted Governor in February 2015.  I have three children attending Burford School.

 

Jason Batten

I joined the Governing Body in 2013 and was Co-opted in February 2015.  I currently sit on the Management Committee and have Governor responsibility for premises.  Both my children attended Burford School and are now in secondary education.  My primary reason for joining the Governing Body was to represent the local committee on the Governing Body as I also serve on the Parish Council.

 

Jane Hawksworth

I was co-opted onto the Governing Body in April 2016, to sit on the Management Committee as the Development Governor.  I have two children currently at Burford in years 3 and 5 and a third will hopefully join in September 2018. Previous to this I was involved in the local Pre-school committee and was delighted to join the Burford Governing Body to be able to continue to contribute as much as I can. I am a member of Friends of Burford, having recently taken over the role of Secretary and also a member of the Village Hall Trust Committee.

 

Kevin Steele

I was delighted to be Co-opted to the Governing Body in 2017.  I have 2 children in Burford and recognize what a fantastic school we already have, but there are always opportunities for improvement!  I am excited to utilise my industry and management experience to the benefit of the school to help make it even more successful with safe, happy and thriving children.

 

Richard Apletree

I joined Burford School as a Governor in September 2018. I currently have two children at the school, and my eldest child also attended Burford School.  I come from a financial background and have spent 15 years in finance, of which 5 years was as CFO of Giffgaff.  I hope that as a Governor I can use my experience to make a positive contribution to the further development of this excellent school.
