Dear Parents/Friends/Guardians
Information and PowerPoint presentations from the parents’ meeting on 20th September are now available on the website and can be accessed via the governors section. This is a time of change with the implementation of new strategies from the government and I can not praise my staff enough, both teaching and non teaching, for all their hard work and dedication in a difficult yet exciting time. As always their main priority is the education and welfare of all the children, but with all the new initiatives they have taken on board I must voice my appreciation for such a conscientious team.
Staffing
On a sadder note it is with much regret that I have to inform you that Mrs Garrity will be leaving Burford at Christmas. I am extremely sad to be losing an excellent teacher who has contributed hugely to the life of the school and is much respected by staff and parents alike. On informing me of her decision, Mrs Garrity expressed her sadness at leaving but also her desire to take some time out to spend with her family. We recognise that home life must be a priority and therefore support Mrs Garrity in this. I am sure you will respect her decision and wish her the very best in any future ventures. Mrs Collins will of course continue to teach the class over the next two terms providing consistency and continuity throughout the year. We will be appointing a teacher next week to job-share with Mrs Collins for the remainder of the year.
As you will be aware, a number of staff will be leaving at Christmas and I wanted to take the opportunity to reiterate that although they will all be greatly missed and we wish them well, we will ensure that experienced, innovative teachers are brought in to continue the good work already in place, in order to maintain the high standards and excellent teaching at Burford school.
Visits
We would like to wish good luck to Mr Vyner, his team and all the children involved in The National Schools Score Orienteering Championships at Petworth this weekend. Many parents will be going to support them and, as the weather is supposed to be glorious, I’m sure they will all have a fantastic time. We look forward to a triumphant return on Saturday evening!
Volunteers
Mr Vyner has asked if there is anyone who would be willing to help with sewing up bands for games sessions. If you can spare the time, please see Mr Vyner.
Charities
Thank you to everyone who wore Jeans today and brought £1 for the ‘Jeans for Genes’ charity. We will be sending our donation to the charity on Monday and I am sure it will be much appreciated.
Harvest
Thank you also to everyone who brought in Harvest gifts last week. We have received lots of lovely cards and letters from the elderly, thanking us for their parcels and commenting on how polite and smartly dressed the children were!
Book
Fair
We will be having the Book Fair in school on 16th October. It will be set up in the school entrance and all the classes will have a turn to visit. You are welcome to come after school each day and take a look yourselves – the books will also be on display during the parents’ evenings.
