Dear Parents/Friends/Guardians

Staffing
It is with much regret that I have to inform you that Mrs Norton will be taking early retirement from Easter due to ill health. We are uncertain as to whether Mrs Norton will be fit enough to return before Easter, when she will be retiring, but will keep you informed. We shall be very sad to lose Mrs Norton and we appreciate all the years she has contributed to Burford School. We will be appointing a new Teacher for Pine Class as soon as possible.

Trainers
A reminder that the school uniform policy states that trainers should not be worn with school uniform to and from school and that school shoes should be worn at all times.

Help Required
If anyone has any skills that could be put to good use in school (eg plumbers, carpenters etc) we would be very grateful for their assistance. Our dishwasher door has come off its hinge and we would appreciate any advice!

Visits
As part of their Egyptian topic, Year Six children visited the Splendours of the Pharaohs Exhibition at the O2 Arena on Monday. This included some of the treasures of Tutankamun. These were magnificent and it took a great deal of effort to remember that these were 3500 years old as many of them looked in such pristine condition they could have come from John Lewis’. Many appreciative comments came from members of the public as to how knowledgeable, interested and how well behaved the children were.
Y3 also had an excellent day dressed up as Vikings last week. They had a hands-on experience from ‘History off the Page’ and they particularly like the archaeological digging and all the different workshops.

Maths Challenge
Year 6 Mathematicians from Burford put their prowess to the test against many of the top prep schools in the south of England when they attended the Eagle House Maths Challenge. Out of thirty two teams in the red section of the competition, Harvey Barber and Louise Jubainville came an excellent 7th while in the blue section Thomas Walker and Eric Cordes finished the afternoon in a fantastic 2nd place. They also performed well in the cake eating which concluded the afternoon’s event! An excellent afternoon

Amplifiers
We are looking for two small 10 watt guitar practice amplifiers to help with the electric guitar lessons (eg fender, Carlsbro). If any one has any that they no longer require the school would be very grateful.

Foam Packing
If anyone has any foam packing they do not want, we would appreciate it for school as we could utilize it as rubbers for use with the small whiteboards that children use individually in the classroom. We could also do with small pasta pots (the type with lids on) for glue.

Y5/6 Show
This year we will be putting on a production with the Upper key Stage 2 children, just before the Easter break. It is called ‘Gel’ and will involve all of the Y5 and Y6 children. We would appreciate any volunteers to help with costumes, scenery and props. If anyone feels they can give up some time to help make costumes, backdrop etc, please see Miss Steel or leave your information at the school office.
