Dear Parents/Friends/Guardians

TAG RUGBY
Wasps held their High Wycombe tag rugby tournament at Wycombe Rugby Club on Thursday in bitterly cold weather. After a hesitant start the Burford B team become more confident and eventually emerged winners of their group to play Great Kingshill “A”
The “A” team looked assured from the start and headed their group to advance to the semi finals to play Great Kingshill B
The first semi final between Burford B and Great Kingshill A was a very even affair and at full time the teams were locked together at 9 – 9. After extra time the teams still couldn’t be separated, so a further period of extra time was played with Burford emerging 2 – 1 winners to advance to the final.
The A team looked very classy and although Kingshill held them for a short period they eventually moved up through the gears to win comfortably 7 – 3
The all Burford final was an excellent game with the B team even having the temerity to take a 2 – 1 lead. However, this was not to last and the A team eventually won 7 – 3.
A terrific effort by both teams and maybe a first in a Wasps tournament. Phoebe Mansfield, our outstanding captain, received the trophy.

Lockers
Due to congestion in the locker area, we have reviewed our safety procedures. From half term Y4 & Y5 are to stagger times that children collect belongings to avoid accidents: Y5 will collect bags at 3.10pm and return to classroom to be dismissed. Children will leave via side doors in Sequoia and Juniper.Y4 will collect belongings at 3.15pm and leave via cloakroom doors.Y6’s to leave via door in Yew class.

Calling all potential orienteers and their parents.
The school is looking for children in Years 2/3/4 and 5 to join our wonderful group of orienteers. We have large numbers of boys and are looking to recruit some girls, particularly those who like to do something a little bit different.
For those of you who haven’t the faintest idea of what orienteering is, there will be a meeting on Thursday 28th February 2007 in the school hall at 7:30p.m. when all the mysteries of orienteering will be explained. Alternatively, pop in and have a word with Mr Vyner.

Inset Day
The fifth Inset day for the academic year 2008/9 has been set as Monday 22nd June 2009.

The reserve dates are

Re-cycling
For those of you concerned about the amount of paper used in communications home eg newsletters, class letters etc, we are in the process (with the help of FOB) of setting up a system of sending all mail electronically for those who can receive it. Obviously there will still be hard copies for those without email. Watch this space!

Chiltern Walk
Y6 had an excellent day on their Chiltern Walk. The weather was glorious and Monday 11th February was the first of two days walking in the Chilterns to prepare the Year 6 children for Yorkshire. Beautiful sunshine, balmy temperatures and squash and biscuits kindly provided by Lady Getty, who lives on the Wormsley Estate made it a most enjoyable day.
Highlights for the children were the large tawny owl that flapped out of a thick rhododendron bush and the first butterfly of the year, a beautiful brimstone. According to Mr Vyner, the highlight was the huge hill up to Ibstone which finished the walk. Conditions underfoot were perfect and the slow group managed a distance of 6 miles while the stronger children managed an amazing 9 miles.

Guitar Concert
On Thursday we had a super concert performed by the guitar teachers from Wycombe Music Centre. They enthralled all the children with their musical skills and their performance was enjoyed by all! Many of the pupils also played in the concert, again proving what a talented bunch we have at Burford!

Congratulations!
Congratulations to Mrs Platt and her husband on the birth of Chloe Elizabeth on 13th February! Chloe weighed in at 8.1 lbs and mother and baby are doing well!

Books
I would like to thank all parents who have kindly donated books towards our reading scheme. Many of them have already been incorporated and the children are enjoying having such a wide variety to choose from! Mrs Williams
