Collection for Mrs Norton’s Retirement
Sue Norton, who has taught at Burford for 12 years, has decided to retire at Easter due to ill health. We would all like to wish her the very best for a full recovery and a long and happy retirement. If you would like to make a contribution towards a leaving present please send cash only into the school office (unfortunately we are unable to put cheques that are leaving present contributions through the school accounts).

Phonics Information
We had a very successful phonics evening last week which was extremely well attended. A handout to accompany the phonics talk by Lesley Clarke will be added to the website (hopefully later today) under the ‘Curriculum’ button. This really needs to be read in conjunction with the short video showing how to pronounce the sounds, which is already on the website. If you do not have Internet access a hard copy is available from the school office.
Achievements
Well
done to Harry Scurlock who has passed his assessment at All Saints Church in
Marlow and has become the only Burford pupil to be a full chorister!
The
Year 6 netball team had their first fixture against St Peters School.
The girls played with great enthusiasm and determination. The final
score was 5-1 to Burford – a thoroughly deserved win! Well done!
Their next fixture is on Tuesday 11th March against St Johns School.
All supporters welcome.

Staffing
We are pleased to inform you that we have appointed Miss Emma Legassic to teach Pine class after the Easter break. Miss Legassic is an experienced teacher with piano and recorder skills who has specialised in KS1. She is currently teaching at Tylers Green Infant school and we are very much looking forward to her starting at Burford.
Filming
As part of her previous role as an AST (Advanced Skills Teacher), Mrs Williams was asked by Bucks County Literacy advisers to take part in filming a number of literacy activities with her class. These activities were used as part of a teacher training resource. She has since been lucky enough to be approached again by Louise Glasspoole, who is now working as a freelance literacy consultant and has written a number of literacy teaching resources. The project involves us working with a video production company in Manchester, who are making a series of interactive CD ROM’s for Cambridge University Press. These CD ROMs form part of a resource written by Louise Glasspoole. The CD ROM is focused around literacy and will feature interactive learning activities for teachers and children throughout the UK.
Our school is one of a few that have been chosen to participate in the videos. The production company will visit our school on Friday 14th March and film Chestnut class taking part in a number of literacy based exercises.

Whole School Montage Photograph
Proofs of the 2008 Whole School Montage board from Ward-Hendry Photographers will be coming home with your child today. They have asked for all orders to be in by Friday 14th March, we have asked for a little leeway with this as it is rather short notice, but if you would like a copy please return your order to school as soon as possible.

Visits
The Reception classes had a fantastic day out at the National Gallery in London last week. Their behaviour was excellent and commended by a number of adult visitors to the gallery. They had a taught session with one of the education tutors from the gallery and looked at various works of art including Van Gogh’s ‘Sunflowers’. Their enthusiasm and knowledge when discovering the picture of the sunflowers amazed many members of the public!

Paper
If anyone has any paper, for example out of date headed paper from their company, of any size that could be donated to school it would be very welcome.
