Newsletter - 28th March 2008
Dear Parents/Friends/Guardians,
The
Pond
A huge thank you to Mr Vyner, Mr Collinswood,
Natalie Kreimes-Liimatainen, Kelly
Lowe, Marcus Ushiro-Lumb and Hannah Hunt for spending a whole day taking out
the old pond liner and putting the new one in! They worked their socks off
all day ensuring the fish and frogs had a lovely new home! The pond is a
valuable resource for the school and all their hard work was very much
appreciated, thank you!

Congratulations
Congratulations to Mr Andy Watts and his wife Jennie on the birth of their
first child Rebecca! Rebecca was born on the 7th March at 19.18pm
weighing in at 7lb 4oz and we wish them all well!
Achievements
The
Mathematical association run a nationwide competition called the Primary
Maths Challenge each year. This is open to every school throughout the
Country. This year some of our year 6 pupils got amazing results! Sophie
Lavis, Eric Cordes and Thomas Salmon all achieved places in the final and
were awarded special certificates. Tommy Jackson achieved a bronze medal and
Harvey Barber, Louise Jubainville and Thomas Walker all achieved silver
medals! This means they were amongst the top 1% in the Country – well done
to all of them!
The
Year 6 netball teams have played a number of fixtures this term. The ‘A’
team played against

Well done to Sam North, Josh Minett and Thomas Salmon who were runners up in
the finals of the inter schools table tennis competition at Chalfont St
Peter last week. They played extremely well and showed great sportsmanship

Well done to Fraser Brown who achieved his award for progress in string
playing in his step one violin exam!

11+ meeting for Y5 parents
For your dairies - the meeting for Y5 parents regarding procedures for next
years 11+ tests has been moved back a week from the 19th June to
26th June. This is because the Power Point presentation from
County will be available slightly later than planned.

Code of Conduct for issuing penalty Notices
The revised Code of Conduct for issuing penalty notices for poor attendance
is available on the County website. Hard copies are available for those who
would like them from the school office.

Parent Forum
Thank you to all those people who have volunteered for the parent forum. We
are still looking for representatives from Oak, Beech, Cedar, Juniper, Yew
and Hawthorn classes. If you would like to volunteer or if you know someone
who would be keen, please let the office know.

Healthy Lunches
If you are unsure as to what you should provide in your child’s lunchbox,
information on a well balanced, healthy lunch is provided on the website
under the ‘Letters/Forms’ button.
Visits/Curriculum
Y4 visited the Living Rainforest last week and enjoyed it immensely. They
saw lots of plants, insects and animals in their habitats and had a guided
tour of exhibits with in depth discussions from the rainforest staff.
Year 6 also had another excellent day on their Chiltern walk.
Y3 had a visit to school from the staff at Mop End. They also had an
excellent day and learnt all about rocks and soils. Y2 spent an exciting
afternoon re-enacting the great Fire of London in the playground! They have
spent the last few weeks making models of houses and set them on fire to see
how quickly they burnt in windy conditions with their thatched roofs and
close proximity. Luckily we had a fireman on hand in case of emergencies!

Collection
If you would still like to contribute to a collection for Mrs Norton please
send in any donations to the school office. We will be buying a leaving
present to give to her next week as she will be finishing on Friday.

Thank You
Thank you to Frank Sweatman, a
The
western boundary of the school grounds borders publicly accessible woodland.
The wire fence is regularly vandalised allowing unauthorised access by
people and dogs as well as deer. The school would like to create a secure
and permanent boundary whilst maintaining an attractive environment;
therefore immediate repairs are needed to the wire fence. A natural hedge of
Berberis Darwinii is planned for the entire length of the boundary, giving
an evergreen, hardy and very prickly barrier with the added advantages of
attractive foliage, flowers and edible berries. We have been offered a
generously discounted price (from Flowerland in Bourne End) of £400,
excluding VAT, for 160 plants, enough for the planned 75 metre run.
Access to the playground to the northern side of the school is currently via
an extremely steep slope. This access is the evacuation route for parts of
the school and is also regularly used by children, whose classrooms are on
that side of the building, to avoid the need for them to cross the front of
the school where there are cars and vans making deliveries etc. Steps with a
handrail would make access much safer, especially in wet or icy weather.
Thanks to Mr Sweatman we are now able to improve the safety of the school
with these measures.

Gift Aid
Thank you to all those people who have already sent in gift aid forms, it
has been much appreciated! If anyone would still like to make any donations
the form is available on the website.

Library
Just a reminder that children should not take books back to the library
without having them checked off on the computer first, otherwise the system
does not allow another book to be taken out.

Musical Instruments
Also a reminder that all musical instruments need to be stored in the music
room, not in the entrance to the library as this is causing congestion.
