Newsletter - 2nd May 2008
Dear Parents/Friends/Guardians
Welcome back after the Easter break. We have an exciting term to look forward to with the Y5 and Y6 residential visits, various day trips for the other classes, Y3/4 Show, Summer concert, Leavers assembly, sports days and creativity week! We are now fully staffed for September having had over 50 applications in response to our job advert! Clearly the reputation of the school is very strong to have attracted such an unusually large quantity of replies and we are looking forward to taking the school from strength to strength next year!
Gel
Well done to all the children in Y5 and Y6 who were absolutely amazing in the performance of Gel at the end of last term! They worked really hard and showed what an incredible amount of talent they have! I was extremely impressed with every single one of them and delighted that they all took part in the production whether helping behind the scenes or acting, singing and dancing on the stage. Thank you to all the staff who made it possible and who have given the children something they will remember for years to come!

Band/Brass
Mr Lewis will not be in school on 15th May for Band or Brass practice. Please remember not to bring your instruments on this day.

FOB
Burford School are pleased to remind parents & children, that by popular demand Friends of Burford will present another afternoon of film on 11th May 2008 in the school hall. The films to be shown are ‘Ratatouille’ and ‘The Bee Movie’. Tickets will be £3.00 - there will be a free packet of crisps and drinks & additional crisps can be purchased during the films. Catie McNamara has won the draw for the free ticket to see one of the films – Well done Catie!
Many Thanks
Les Carter (For: Friends of Burford)

Tag
rugby
On Monday three tag rugby teams from Burford competed in the High Wycombe Tag Rugby Festival. Our C team played against A and B teams from other schools. This team played well with lots of children making their debuts. Our A and B teams both won their groups to go through to the final with Naphill.
Burford B team drew with Naphill 9-9 before losing to our powerful A team. This meant that Naphill had to win to beat us and although they played hard our A team once again emerged victorious with Phoebe Mansfield receiving the trophy.
The team now goes forward to represent High Wycombe at the Thames Valley Youth Games. Well done to everyone.

Parent Forum
Thank you to all those people who have volunteered for the parent forum. We now have representatives from most classes and our first meeting will be on 16th May. Your class rep will be contacting you to let you know more after this date. If you would still like to volunteer for Juniper or Hawthorn please let the office know.

Thank You
Thank you to Hugh Evans of Flowerland who supplied all our prickly bushes for the perimeter of the field at a discounted price. This will improve security, especially regarding deer, dogs and rabbits! As well as looking aesthetically pleasing!

Visits/Curriculum
Y5 have spent a fantastic week at Osmington Bay. The site was extremely safe and secure with lots of very enthusiastic young staff! They have had great fun on all the adventure activities including climbing Jacobs ladder, archery, tunneling underground, aeroball and beach walks. We had a very wet afternoon at Corfe castle but it was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. The PGL has been a very exciting experience for the children and something to remember!
On Thursday 1st May Cedar Class had a wonderful visit to The Ashmolean Museum as part of the Take One Picture Scheme. The children were very impressed by the Museum and have written comments recommending the museum to others.
“It is most inspiring to those who love pictures and sculptures.”
“There are really fascinating pictures and lots of amazing statues.”
“Its pictures are inspiring and fill the whole museum with joy.”
“The pictures are wonderfully fascinating and detailed in every way.”
”Come to The Ashmolean because it’s the most spectacular museum ever, it has interesting pictures. It even has statues. I give it a five star rating!”
“It’s out of this world!”
We were very proud to receive so many complimentary comments about the children, their behaviour, their work and their attitude. As a result Burford School has been invited back anytime.

Sainsburys vouchers
We are collecting Sainsbury’s Vouchers which we can exchange for sports equipment. We have a box in the entrance hall into which these may be deposited. Sadly a vast number arrive after the closing date. Could you please search through your handbags, that drawer where such things are deposited or unpin them from the cork board where such things are pinned and send them to school. Thank you very much.

Art
It would be useful if aprons/old large shirts were provided for your child when they are involved in creative/art work to protect school uniform from getting too messy.

Plant pots
Y3 will be working on ‘Narrowboat Art’ this term and need old plant pots that are black or dark green (not brown). If anyone has any they no longer want Y3 would be very grateful!

Disabled/Gents toilet
Work will be starting next week to build a new toilet at the back of the hall. This will be for disabled use as well as ‘the gents’ as we currently don’t have one as many of you know! The disruption should last about two weeks and I am pleased to say, is being paid for by County!
