Year 6 Homework

We value the support of parents in providing the time, encouragement and a suitable environment for the children in which to complete their homework. In Year 6, homework will comprise of:

• Reading - from school library book, minimum of 5 times per week for 20 mins each time.  
• Maths - Mental Maths Homework Book or maths homework set by teachers. Ongoing Times Tables Rockstars practice.
• English - this will either be a reading comprehension or a grammar based activity (usually from the paper based homework books).
• Spelling - 10 spellings per week to practise via assignments set on Spelling Shed.

Pupils in Year 6 have a 'Year 6 Planner/Diary' where they are expected to write down notes about their homework.  Each week, our Google Classroom Pages will also be updated with details regarding the Year 6 homework.

There may be occasional times when homework is not given, e.g. during assessment weeks or residential weeks.  As a school, we do not expect homework to be completed over holiday periods however children in Year 6 may be offered optional homework over holiday times.  

Burford School considers the homework offer to be reasonable and manageable.  For children in Year 6, it is also good preparation for the transition into secondary school.  We expect homework to be handed in on time and to be completed neatly and with care and pride.
