The School Day

School Hours

Nursery morning session: 8.40 – 11.40

Nursery afternoon session: 12.10 – 15.10

Reception children: 08:30 -15:15

KS1 and KS2 children: 08.30 - 15.15

We have a ‘soft start’ at the beginning of the school day.  Mrs Marshall welcomes the children by the slope/KS1 door at 8:30am.  Parents are asked to ensure that their children do not arrive in school before 8.30am as they are not supervised before this time.  All classroom doors will be open at 8:30am and we ask for all children to be seated in their classrooms by 8:45am for registers to be taken at 8:50am.

We expect all children to arrive in school on time and with their required equipment for the day.

The school gate and doors open at 8:30am and will close promptly at 08:45. We believe this 15 minute window is sufficient to allow for all children to arrive safely.

The registers will close at 08:45.

Please see below a clear timeline for arrival.

• 08:30 – 08:45 Gates open for children to arrive.

• 08:45 Gates will be closed. Children arriving after this time must be signed in at the school office by an adult. Children arriving after 08:45 will be recorded as late.

• 08:45 onwards: Children arriving after 08:45 will be marked as late but present. A full reason for the lateness must be provided.

• 08:50 onwards: Children arriving after 08:50 will be recorded as ‘late as the register has closed’ and this will be recorded as an unauthorised absence (1 session).

The lunch break for Nursery is between 11:40 and 12:10pm

The lunch break for Reception and KS1 is between 11.45 and 12.45pm.

Lunch break for upper KS2 is between 12:15 and 13:15pm.

Most children stay in school to eat lunch.

During the normal school week the children are in school for 32.5 hours.

Total teaching hours are as follows:

Key Stage 1  Age 5 – 7         22.5 hours

Key Stage 2  Age 8 – 11       23.5 hours

These times include all the hours in the pupils’ school day apart from the time spent on registration, assemblies and breaks.
